Twelve States Sue to Block Paramount Skydance Warner Bros Discovery Merger

State attorneys general are asserting parens patriae authority under the Clayton Act to challenge a vertical-horizontal media combination the federal Antitrust Division already closed after an eight-month review, testing the residual power of states when federal clearance is unconditional.

On July 13 a coalition of 12 Democratic state attorneys general filed federal suit to enjoin the $110 billion Paramount Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery after the Justice Department cleared it without conditions.
