Commerce finalized a Direct Funding Agreement of up to $225 million with Robert Bosch on July 13 for its Roseville California silicon-carbide conversion.
Why it matters: Household prices for cars and electronics already moved with prior supply shocks; the compute foundation for AI automation and defense now carries both national-security and taxpayer-subsidy questions that affect future tax bills and job locations.
Date to watch: Commercial production of silicon-carbide chips at the Roseville facility is expected later in 2026.
