On September 28, 2026 the FCC's Public Safety and Wireless Bureaus released DA 26-1041, opening nominations until October 28 for a Band Manager Selection Committee that will recommend who holds a nationwide overlay licence over the 4.9 GHz public-safety band and negotiates a sharing agreement with FirstNet — a committee expressly barred from reconsidering the arrangement itself.
